Booked Citroen Berlingo category and got a downgrade to a smaller car. I couldn’t put all my family luggage in. The staff was very helpful to solve the problem. Got a bigger car after some discussions. However, in a dire condition. One side was very scratched, the side doors didn’t close properly and I got it with an empty tank instead of ‘full to full’ according to my contract.
Good service but very confusing to find. They told us to go to the upper floor of the airport but their office wasn't there; upon calling them, we were told to wait at the taxi area to be picked up and driven to the actual location (some 10 minutes away by car). They were quick once we got there.
Car book was “economy” so I expected a panda or fiesta but was given a Citroen C1 which is classified as a “mini”.
Pick up desk was stated as in the terminal but was about 3 miles away.
The car was old, dented and dirty.
Did not get the car I had however got similar sized car. The car condition was not very good. Customer service was good no problems picking or dropping the car. Word of advise take as much pictures and video of the car before pick up.
avis rang me at 7.24am because the client before insisted to contact me to see if his phone was forgotten in the car, then got poor apologies from avis saying it was the client who asked...am i not a client to be considered?

It was a mess! We figured at least they wouldn’t notice any damage as there was no space left to damage! Wouldn’t book through them again.

Would not use again, Prepaid all costs upfront for a Skoda Estate or similar - they tried to give me a Suzuki Baleno. Then charged me additional Vat and Taxes plus a mandatory prepaid fuel service which I did not want.
The company is probably the biggest one in Malta, services were really good, they are really PRO in what they do.
I definitely will use the company services in Malta or other countries once again.
7.3Booking process and checking in car all good. Car experience very disappointing
Counter staff were very pleasant and helpful. The cars body work was in poor condition (scratches,dents, body trim missing). The service indicator on the dashboard was on. The cars running performance was very poor it had a problem with it. We didn’t report this until we dropped car off at end of our stay, because we were only staying for a few days and didn’t want this to have any impact on the time we had on the island.

It was explained to me that I cannot rent a car with American Express card because they are very easy to cancel payment, but then they start twisting my hands to pay full insurance on the same card. Would be good to have staff wearing a t-shirt or shirt with the company logo on it. We were told to meet “a guy wearing a grey t-shirt” outside to collect the car. Also at busy times additional staff are needed when collecting/dropping off cars
9The whole process was very easy and I could travel to Malta not worried about the car rental at all!
Great service at both pick and and drop off. Surprice was our first and last impression of the country and straight away we knew we were going to have a great holiday based on their friendly and helpful nature.
The car had a number of minor scratches on the bodywork, hub caps and wheel rims (normal wear and tear, given the car's purpose!). The agent left me in no doubt that a scratch would cost hundreds of pounds. They had not made any effort that I could see to repair previous damage. He took detailed pictures of the car with his I-pad so I did the same with my phone.
This made me reluctant to use the car as much as I had planned to, as the local driving and condition of the roads was poor. There were also a number of poor reviews online to back up my concerns.
However, when I returned the car the agent took lots of photos, inside and out. I did the same.
The car was given a clean bill of health and I was told my deposit would be returned in a few days.
Although everything worked out fine, I was made to feel somewhat uneasy about dealing with the company.

Was forced to pay extra at pick up as they wouldn’t accept insurance paid for at booking. Said it wasn’t valid as it wasn’t their own insurance. (Actually didn’t pay and took the risk). Then wouldn’t accept my bank card so had to add my husband as a driver to use his card which cost more. None of this made clear at time of booking. Man was incredibly unhelpful.
